I need to get to the alternator on a Ford LGT 165 with Kohler engine. I can see the wires disappear into the engine, but can't see the alternator or figure out what I need to take apart to get to it. Can someone help? Thanks!

The stator under the flywheel doesn't go bad very much, most of the time it is the regulator, the wire going to the switch or the fuse holder in the harness.

The stator assembly is under the flywheel. Pull the engine, remove flywheel blower housing, remove flywheel with a puller(DO NOT HAMMER ON FLYWHEEL) make sure all the magnets on the flywheel are still attached. The stator is attached with four screws to bearing plate.Make sure the voltage regulator on blower housing is good.

I guess that's possible, but it doesn't look like it. The starter just has one heavy wire connecting it to the starter solenoid. There are two wires going from the voltage regulator module which disappear into the engine; I assume they go to the alternator.

Hi again. My guess would be that its under the flywheel then, which means pulling the engine.

The alternator stator coils are enclosed by the flywheel, flywheel has permanent magnets inside it.
