My 22HP B&G engine on my garden tractor recently started backfiring continously. It backfires worse when the mower is engaged. Can anyone give me some ideas of what is causing this?

My Cub-Cadet ZTR is doing exactly the same thing. I would appreciate any help on this one.

Could be the flywheel key is partially sheared causing it to be a little out of time

my first thought would be a stuck/burned exhaust valve. Of course it could be something else. carburator, ignition timing, etc.

Is it weak on power ? smoke black ?

No black smoke, but the power does seem to be less.
