I bought a new gasoline mower in 1999 and pretty much liked it but was not satisfied. I found an older gasoline JD 400 and have had it for two years and enjoy it. Always something to tinker with. I just bought a JD 430 Diesel and I look forward to working on it. The manuals are very important as I am not a mechanic. I hope you decide on the older diesel!

That's a "no brainer".

I'd take a well maintained but older JD with the Yanmar diesel way before I'd buy a new gasoline powered unit.

Those little Yanmars go forever thanks to being water cooled, pressurized lubrication, and very well designed.
