I am a lawn tractor newbie. Will soon have 0.5 acre to mow -- smooth ground with some gentle hills, 25 trees. I've looked at just about everything out there in the "Under $2500" category. I have narrowed my selection down to the two machines mentioned above. They both seem solid. The machine will be used for mowing only and will be purchased from a dealer (not Lowe's or Home Depot).

JD has a stellar reputation -- as I've noted -- but I'm wondering if it applies as much to the "L" series. The L110 costs $1800. It has a 17.5 HP Kohler single cylinder, 42" deck, manual PTO, 2 antiscalp wheels, and auto tranny.

The CC 1527 has a 17 HP Kawasaki V-twin, 42" deck, true hydrostatic trannie (serviceable), electric PTO, and 4 anti-scalp wheels. It costs $2400.

Both machines have fully welded frames, cast iron front axles, and hour meters. On very close inspection, the CC seems to be 'heavier duty' than the Deere in terms of guage of steel in areas that take stress. The CC has a 5 year warranty to Deere's 2 year.

My guess is that I'd be happy with either machine, but I'm leaning toward the CC because of the V-twin Kawasaki, hydrostatic trannie, warranty, and what appears to my untrained eye to be a more rugged machine.

I'd be very interested in hearing opinions based on specifics, i.e. I wanna know WHY you have a preference for one over the other. Can you help?

Thanks!

Dave, i work a Deere dealer and im not gonna get into any details but i would much rather have the Cub Cadet.Built a-lot better than them L100's.Them L100's were made to compete with the really, really cheap made mowers.

Dave, I purchased a JD L110 2 weeks ago. I have mowed 3 times, putting 5 hours on the machine. I bought the L110 to mow a second piece of property, a little less than an acre. I bought a JD LX 188 in 1992 to take care of my principle property, whcih is a little over an acre. The LX 188 is 48" cut with liquid cooled 17 hp Kawasaki V-twin. The LX188 is a nicer tractor than the L110, but it was about $4200 new. So far, I have been happy with the L110. I bought the L110 from a JD dealer, and spent about 45 minutes getting the mower deck level. I like the single cylinder Kohler. The hydrostat is not serviceable, but it drives nice. Hope this helps. Good luck with your decision. Philip.

Dave, Its like DC said I think you are leaning the right way, and noticed the things I would be looking for. My added suggestion is that if you can drive both and I think you will find that the twin cylinder engine on the CC will be quite a bit smoother. More money, but if you can afford it, I think you will like it. Good luck on your choice. Mark R.

My Dad got the cadet a few years ago and the man across the street got the JD dads cadet has been trouble free and mows level but the JD has been back to dealer 4 times and will not mow level at all not sure how the L series will be but a cheap JD would not be my choice ,sounds like you are leaning the right way.
