I have a 6 hp tec. on a troy built roto-tiller that has several prob. first it has a weak spark I've cleaned and adjusted the points and cleaned the flywheel and coil and changed plugs still no change. also when I try to rev the engine as soon as it comes off idle it will die. I cleaned carb,it was gummed up and tried adjusting with no luck no matter what I do it still dies. any ideas would help, thanks

p.s. its been several years since it has been started

Wel,a lotta folks cuss Tecumsehs, prefer Briggs, and I seem to have made a lot of Tecumseh owners happy over the years so here goes.By far the most common problem I've encountered w/Tecs is carburator related,A Briggs don't seem to min a little filth and crud, but Tecs hate it.A little
sand grain sized piece of grit or a dab of varnish makes Mr Tec very unhappy.Thoroughly clean the carb(spray carb cleaner)repeatedly and blow out passages with compressed air(Don't blow the needle seat out and lose it,over the years dozens are nesting somewhere in my shop).Of primary concern is the tiny hole(s)in the sides of the main jet tube(holds the bowl on).NEVER ever let a Tec sit for the off-season with gas in it.You will have problems if you do,unless you;re very lucky.

Carb, Carb, Carb. Gummed up. You may think you cleaned it, but. Good cleaner, air compressor, etc. Intank filter? You need to clean everything that gas ran through.
