I recently bought a Cub 1650 Hydro. The man I got it from told me that after mowing for awhile if you stopped (disengaged the blades) to do something else, the blades would not re engage till they had "cooled". Well I bought the Cub knowing that it needed some work. I just did not realize it was going to be so soon....

Today while mowing I ran over a piece of slab Oak just a small corner piece. Nonetheless it became lodged between the blade and deck. It shut the entire machine down not just the blades. So I took the deck off to remove the wood. Reinstalled the deck, and it still would not engage the blades. I let it sit about another hour still won't. Then I start trying to trouble shoot the tractor. Runs good, won't mow. Check the pto switch for the blades. All connections tight. Belt is tight, blades will move with hand force. Restart motor yes blades NO. Now I am getting upset. Recheck the switch and remove to replace because it is the cheapest and easiest part. Accidentally unhook one wire from the back of a fuse holder. Aha! check fuses... both good. :( Now try to rehook wire to fuse holder cannot reach it... Remove dash to get to back of fuse holder. Rounded out screw head!!! Now cannot get dash off. It's ok I will remove fuse holder... cracked it and then it disentergrated... Now I am really fuming!!!! Stomp snort cuss, and swear I am going to town to buy a new one. Went inside away from the mower. I need help anybody have any ideas? What is wrong with the mowing deck?? Why can't I mow?

UPDATE: When I engage the switch on the dash the voltmeter decreases but cannot hear a click in the motor area. Can somebody point me to a page where I can get an idea what the clutch assembly and wires should look like? Someone suggested it may be a loose wire a the clutch area. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!

Sorry but I am very very new to electric pto clutches. Honestly I have never owned a hydro till now and I am LOST! Don't know where to begin looking...

there is a relay in the wiring that controles the safety switches, the pto clutch will not engage if the relay is bad, it has something like 6 wires on one side the relay plugs in the other side should be close to the battery, cost less than $20.00 To check the clutch, unplug at clutch put a wire on each post put one to a good ground, the other one to + post on battery (just touch it) listen for the clutch click. hope this helps.

OK, first thing you need to do is order the manuals - owner's, parts, engine, service. Call Ken Updike at 608-455-2411 and he'll get them right out to you.

Second thing you need to do is visit these sites ... the guys there know Cub Cadets inside and out, and they will be very happy to give you a hand:

Sounds like your PTO is out of ajustment. There are 4 slots top, bottom ,sides ,in the PTO behind the pulley that you slide your filler gauge in ,set clearnce with the 4 bolts with springs behind them (.12-.15)thousands
