Randy - It's possible, when changing the air filter, some material dropped into the carb. It would not take much. If that did occur, it would explain the need to partially deploy the choke. That would most likely, require taking the carb off the machine, disassembling it, cleaning, and reassembling. I'd not want to start on that project without first check a few other things. First, I'd check that when the coke is pulled out, that it completely covers the carb opening. Also, when fully depressed, the carb opening is fully "open". Your choke cable could be out of adjustment and that when you have the choke knob partially out, the choke itself is actually where it would normally be when the choke knob is fully depressed. There is a screw that captures the cable, either on or near the carb (depending on the model year). The idle mixture screw on the carb could be out of adjustment. If there is a limiter cap on the screw, you may have to carefully pry it off to make the adjustment. The idle mixture screw should be clockwise until "lightly" seated. Then turn it counter-clockwise 1-1/4 turns. Replace the limiter cap (if you had one). Start the engine and let it warm up fully. Set the throttle to slow idle. If you have a tach (most of us don't) you'll need to set the rpm to 1250. Next, turn the idle mixture screw "in" until the rpm drops, then back out till engine speed increases and then drops again. Adjust to the highest rpm between drops and then back out 1/8 turn. Good luck. - Dave
