Would turf tires with chains have better traction in dirt than tractor-type lug tires?

If you are asking for garden work then lugs have worked better for me. A lot depends on the conditions you are in.

Yes it is the conditions. Lugs are better on/in loose dirt. Chains are better on hard pack and ice.

From what I have seen chains are a bit rough on your tires too. Especially if they are old.

gary, it depends alot on the application, but generally chains on turf tires are better for traction on hard packed ground when mowing on slopes, snowplowing, etc. I use chains on turf tires and in addition my tires are loaded for extra weight.

Ag tires work well in the same regards, but they are not going to dig in on slopes like chains will and they defintley won't work well on ice in winter if you do snow removal.

There again it depends on what you are doing. One thing I would suggest is, if you do go with just Ag tires, get them loaded for the extra weight and traction help.

TIPYCALLY CHAIN IS GOING TO GIVE YOU A BETTER BITE THAN LUG TIRES BUT CHAINS ARE HARDER ON TRANSMISSIONG BECAUSE OF THE SUDEN JOLTS YOU GET WHEN A CHAIN BITES IN WERE A LUG IS GOING TO BE MORE OF A CONSISTANT BITE INTO THE GROUND .
