My 10 hp block has already been bored.030 over and is scored due to a broken ring. They told me at the machine shop they could go to a stock 12hp bore but the rod throw is different. If the pin height of the pistons are the same on both it should work. Has anyone had been through this before? I could have it sleeved but that is a lot more money, thanks

You should check the block on the pto side. Some time in the mid or late 70's Kohler quit making two blocks for the 10 and 12 hp. My 1979 Kohler had a 10 hp bore in a K301 (12 hp) block. It said K301 right on the block. I am sure this was the original engine. They did this to save money on casting. Check this out first.

you will need to use a 12hp rod, piston, crank and head as they are different. everything else will work. you can consider sleeving back to 10hp std .lucas

You should probably sleeve it back to Std. because by the time you get the 12 or 14 crankshaft then the new connecting rod, and you can use the 10HP head on a 12 or 14 horsepower, you will be running into a lot more money. If you use the 10HP crank and the 12HP piston and rod the piston will be about a 1/4" below the deck of the block making less compression.
