DEANO; I COMPLIMENT YOU AND YOUR BROTHER FOR SHARING HOW YOU FEEL AS TO THE PURCHASE OF THE MOWER.A GUILTY FEELING IS SOMETHING NOT TO DISMISS! IF I FELT THAT WAY,I WOULD GO BACK TO THE PERSON AND EXPLAIN HOW I FEEL AND RELATE TO THEM THE REASON WHY I FELT THAT WAY AND ASK HER HOW SHE FEELS AND IS SHE STILL NOW COMFORTABLE WITH THE DEAL.THAT FEEELING OF GUILT IS REFERRED TO IN THE BIBLE AS "THE UTTERING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT". AND GOD CAN ONLY BLESS SOMEONE WHO LISTENS TO IT AND DOES THE RIGHT THING.MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS, JOHN

Lots of them. Be sure to try and turn the crankshaft by hand or with a wrench with recoil mechanism off, a stuck recoil can make it not turn. Be sure to have engine totally disconnected from drive system when trying tot run it, to eliminate drive system causes. Otherwise, as they come to me in no order:

1.) stuck/shattered rod.
2.) piston stuck to cylinder wall.
3.) bent valve.
4.) debris or metal blocking flywheel from turning (recoil bad?)
5.) broken cam.

Check the oil, and put some on yer finger. Hold finger under bright light and look for metal in oil. Bad news if it is there, then you know it is internal.

You can pull head off and examine cylinder wall to see if piston is scored/stuck. If so, that can mean a short block is in yer future.

Hope it helps and you find a cheap fix.

----- -These mowers had problems with running hot and snapping the rod, so he may not be as far ahead in the game as he thinks!!

Not sure what god has to do with an AS-IS mower. If she knew it was stuck and you paid for it, then what's the problem? It's yours, you paid for it and you were able to fix it. It's yours when the money hits her hand. I hope it works forever and you never think twice about it again.

One more comment. You know, those of us who are "handy" often forget that the person who sold to us would have to PAY DEARLY to have someone analyze and fix what we fix on the cheap at home. Yeah, she sold it for $50. But she'd have PAID prolly $100 or maybe more to get it fixed at a shop.

Looks to me like she's ahead $50 instead of out $100, and yer bro is smiling over his new machine. I see no losers there!

Glad to have had some part in getting it running.

I get lots of stuff that way and don't feel guilty about it one bit. I repair many computers and never charge a dime. (well sometimes a cookie or two) Quite often I will take a dead PC instead of letting it go to the dump. keeps me in PC's for little to no dollars. I feel my ability to repair items is what makes up the difference between me and the six figure income people. As long as you are honest at the time of purchase if you later "luck out" well good for you. It may have ended up in the dump.
