I have a Cub Cadet tractor with a detachable 50 inch mower deck. The mower deck torsion spring is broken, and the bolt is frozen on so tightly that it will require a proffesional to remove it. I took the deck to a mower shop and they said that the spindles ( I think ) have burrs on them which will result in belt life reduction. They said that these repairs could be upwards of 300.00 just for parts, not including labor. Is it possible to buy a new mower deck for a model 1541, 1993 cub cadet tractor?

I wouldn't walk, but run from this repair guy. Ask some neighbors who they use for repairs.

Yes it is...see yer dealer and grab yer wallet. The spindles have burrs? Hmmm. I'd grab the blade and wiggle it to see if there is any play in it. Does it spin freely witht he belt off? I dunno, never heard of that burr theory, and I've worked on a lot of them.

A pro to remove the pivot bolt? Hmmm. I'd spray it with Blaster penetrant, let it sit a day and spray again. It's nice to have air tools to help with removal. if all else fails, heat the area around it a bit with a propane torch. It will come out. Be sure there is not a locknut under the deck.

The springs are available and not high-priced.
