A couple of years ago I bought a JD GT235. I mow about 2 acres and plow 200' drive in Mich. I now see that Home Depot is selling a line of JD's - I think they are an L series(?). Went to the JD home page and with all the lines of tractors, how do you sort out which is what other than price (all too much). Even on the price there is overlap. How do you know which ones are heavier in the engine, frame, and trans and which is best for what you are doing. Like on the Briggs engines, the more you pay, the better the line of engines. What about hydro trans? They are all the two pedal. Do they use a heavier trans?

Just been kind of wondering. Are they competing too much with themselves?

L = Lawn tractor series - built for mowing grass

GT = Garden tractor series - built for garden chores like tilling, discing, snowblowing, etc.

I have a GT235 and a 335 and they both have the Twin Touch hydro, but use 2 different transmissions. As you move up in the lines, the transmissions get built heavier, but the Twin Touch stays the same, I guess for engineering and appearance.

The biggest tractor Home Depot sells is, I think, the G120. It retails for about the same price as a GT235, but it just doesn't seem to be as nice or heavy as a 235. Still more of a lawn tractor...

You're right, Home Depot, for the first time this year is selling the L100, L110,and L120 series of lawn tractors. The 100 has a manual transmission, the 110 a hydro. The Deere dealer sells the exact same models, also for the first time this year. Around here, HD charges for delivery, but the Deere dealer does not. The dealer will sell a lot more models, and know more about them. For the same price, I went to the Deere dealer for mine.

I think Deere is marketing the smaller models through HD so they can get exposure to larger cities where they aren't as famaliar with where the Deere dealer is.

Must be working, because they are making 2,000 of the L series per day at the factory in Tennessee( I think it's Tennessee anyway)
