Drive belt troubles

I have a yard machine[yr.?]20hp.50" cut.The drive belt keeps coming off.If you get a new one it's ok for a few cuts than it starts all over.Its ok when you are on flat ground and are in shower speed but don't go up inclines or to fast over bumps.I don't what it is. Thank for any help---BUD

I presume you're talking about the traction belt. I'm not sure of the design of your tractor but in general most belt drives operate under the same criteria. Check the belt alignment, routing & tightness (if not tight check for broken springs,binding tighteners etc.). The back side of the belt should be riding in the center of any flat pulleys, and the V should be lined up fairly staight into the V pulleys. Also make sure that the belt guides are set properly,(i.e. not touching the pulleys but with very little clearance.) Also make sure that all the bolts holding the engine & tranny are tight and that all bearings in idlers are good. Hope this helps.
