I just resently purchased a used Huskee 42inch with a 14 HP OHV I/C Quiet Engine. Their are two wiring harnesses that come into the engine. The top one leads to the Stator. The bottom one has a blue/ yellow wires coming from the back to a black wire running to the Igntion armature and a red wire that is unhooked. Despite the schematics with the tractor and multiple online parts guides there is no mention(that I can find) where this loose or disconnected wire goes to. Please help!!!

Rod: Go to www.briggsandstratton.com, type in your model number, type, and code of the engine you are working on. Once you are on the site, go to engine maintenance. You'll find an alternator section. You can download this or view it if you have the acrobat reader. If you don't, they will let you download it free, then you can print or save any information you need for the engine. I can make a wild guess as to where the wire will go, but your best bet is to go to the website and find out what stator you have or alternator. Some Briggs and Stratton have an electric clutch and the red wire is used for that. The white wire is ac for lights only and dc for battery. Some engines have dc only. Some have ac with rectifier changing it back to dc. If this is getting too confusing, take the advice you got before and forget it.

Does it run?
Does it charge the battery?
If yes, ignore it.
