Front tires laying down grass

I have Carlisle Turf-Saver 15x6.00-6 tires on the front of my JD L110 lawnmower, inflated to the correct pressure. Problem is, they lay the grass down so bad that after I mow I can rake up with my hand grass 1" to 1-1/2" higher than the grass I just cut. This is leaving streaks in my yard the width of my front tires. Does anyone have a recommendation for new front tires? Thanks for your help. Philip.

Philip, Have a look at the discussion of mower blades on the next page. Those "Gator Blades" will probably solve your problem. Good Luck!

I hear you, Philip. Some decks do a great job of sucking grass up and cutting it off and others are really mediocre. I had a newer 38" JD 175 set up correctly with new med. lift blades, high rpm, etc. and it did a poor job of mowing regardless of what I did. On the other hand, a Deutz-Allis w a 42" deck gives a cut like a carpet. Both have same size tires and weigh about the same.
IMHO, SHARP blades with correct lift tips and high rpms is the key. Also, avoid wet grass and keep the grass cut frequently. Trying to cut 8" grass doesn't work.

Two thoughts:

Did you sharpen the blades and put them on upside down? It's easy to do and the blades will blow down instead of sucking up.

Because I never seem to be able to mow when it is dry I often have the same problem. If your discharge is on the right, the right blade is truning clockwise when looking at it from the top. If you don't cut a full width and use that right blade to recut the tire track it kind of "combs" it up and does a much better job.

I think it has more to do with tractor weight than anything.

Not to sound like a smart axx, but what is your throttle setting? Need to run at least 3/4 wide open so blades create vaccuum that will stand the grass up. Also need to keep fan speed up to cool engine.

Hey Willie, Thanks for asking, I did not state all of the obvious to save time and space, I guess. Full throttle, dry grass, slow to moderate ground speed. I think Joe might be onto something. I am going home tonight and check the toe-in. What puzzles me is that I have Dico Turf Trac on a very similar mower (higher quality though) and I do not have this problem. I even thought about switching to a high vacumn blade, like for a bagger. By the way, I am side discharging now. Philip.

Make sure your tie rods and steering are correctly adjusted first(free)before buying tires.
A bent spindle or such can cause tires to "scrub" slightly causing this problem,I believe proper set up is in manual.Carlisle TS's are a pretty decent tire and I've run em on several tractors,(mainly cuz the dealers only 6 blocks away)w/out any problems.Bumping pressure just a couple lbs may help too.Otherwise unless you have steep sidehills or such,I'd try correct size tire in a rib tread.
