Flummoxed by Peerless transaxle

I reassembled a model 730 and got 1 spd forward and 4 spds aft. I must have flopped some gear. I don't have any drawings or pictures. It never occurred to me that it would be possible to do that. Bill

Pulled the transaxle down and saw that the large bevel driven gear would fit up on either side of the bevel drive gear. I'm sure it is by design. Probably some applications that would require opposite rotation. Could be a handy fact to know.
By the way, I'm working on a model 930 Peerless.

been there and done that. here is what i done wrong when it happened to me.
i had put the ring gear on the wrong side of the pinion gear thus it turned backwards. 1 forward 6 reverses

CHECK FINAL DRIVE(WHERE AXLE STUBS STICK OUT)MAY HAVE ON OPPOSITE SIDE OF PINION..... ..

I too suspect it must be the bevel gears. It just didn't look like like it could be assembled in two different ways there. Will tear down in next couple days for sure.

You can get a complete rebuild manual off the net by searching for peerless tecumseh, and looking for "motion drive" I just rebuilt mine, HOPE THIS HELPS

I am looking for a manual for the FORD YT16,as I just bought it and am having some problem with the mower deck hook up
