The PTO clutch on my Woods 1850 mower (18 HP Briggs) has no lining on the plates - just bare metal surfaces. Is there supposed to be some sort of friction material on the plates? I don't know if the clutch worked before I disassembled it as this tractor was not running when I got it. The front plate is relatively thin and flexible. It looks like the magnet pulls the front plate into engagement with the heavier rear plate. The rear plate has a recessed area about 1/16" deep - maybe this was where the friction material was?
