I have a oil leak between the rearend and the hydrostatic transmision. In the parts book, it shows a gasket there. My question is, can I make a gasket or is it a special gasket? I do not have it taken apart yet. I think that's where the leak is. Makes a big mess on the garage floor.

I think you can just make the gasket that goes in between the hydro and the gearbox. There are clearances involved if you split the hrdyo unit and for that I would get the gasket from cub

Is it number 23? The part number is 721-3004 at your cub cadet dealer.

Yep, 23 is it, and they are cork. The cork leaks after, oh...say 25-30 years. Heheheheh.

I have seen where a guy made one out of rubber as a replacement, guess it worked for him. Myself, I get the replacement and use a VERY SMALL SMEAR of ultra-blue RTV on the gasket prior to reassembly.

Please skip using the RTV if you did not pass pasting paper neatly in kindergarten. Cuz if you use too much, it can ooze out when you tighten things back up and do damage in the unit.
