Has anyone tried to bypass the varidrive system on a Sears tractor? I'm not able to locate varidrive parts for my GT14 and was thinking that maybe one long belt from the engine pulley to the transaxle might work.

Harlyn: If the longer belt fit, how would you regulate your speed? I have an older YTV varidrive 16hp...had similar problems in finding parts..but you might check with Ray's Mower Shop....Rt 73 Boyertown, Pa. 19512 610 367 2078..He has found anything I've asked for..e-mail RMS1050@aol.com...

Ray's said they'd check and get back to me a few days ago. Haven't heard anything yet. With the longer belt and no varidrive, the only way to regulate the speed would be with the gears & throttle. I'm not sure if that would be workable. I'm hoping someone may have tried it and will let me know if it's practical.

Can see some difficulty in stopping, also...I have used different pulleys on the transaxle
but don't know anyone that has by passed the varidrive completely...Hopefully, Ray's will come through...

I have the same problem. Acutually this system has been problematic from day one. The old wheel horse design sears was selling was much better. Anyhoo, this is my late father's tractor that I really only need to get up leaves with in the fall with the attatched e-z rake vacume. What size pulleys did you put on the variator shaft. Was one larger than the other? What kind of ratio resulted. How well are you able to regulate speed with just the 3 gears in the trans?

Thanks Jim
