OK, I'm probably getting into an area I don't belong, but here I go. B&S 12hp in a Whites mower. Engine had a solid hit noise and tractor stopped moving. Flywheel will not spin all they way around. Valves go in/out. trying to take apart motor to see why it stopped spinning. Any breakdown or steps in doing this is appreciated.

Thanks,
Karl

Yep MAC is probably right. You need to take the other side of the engine apart, not the flywheel side.

Sounds like you may have a broken rod. Take the oil sump/pan off and you should be able to tell.

a puller,, don't have one:put nut back on top of crankshaft even with top of shaft, get big hammer & prybar. pick a good solid place to pry the bottom of flywheel, then smack the top of crankshaft(physics)
OR pry on oneside of the flywheel & smack the other side, this is not recomended but works good for me..
pull the head, see if piston is moving when turning flywheel
