Electric Clutch Problem on Craftsman FF/18

I have a Sears FF/18 (Model number 917.254812). If we shut the PTO off when it is hot it will not engage again until it cools WAY down. Any ideas? Is there something worth checking before I assume it needs a new clutch assembly.

If it turns out to be the clutch, does one normally replace the entire clutch assy or the individual parts. Again assuming that I do need the clutch assy or clutch parts; where do I get them? The Sears webpage says that they are no longer available from them.

Dean,
If you have the manual, try by-passing the switch first. I had a similar problem and I traced it to the intermit operation of the switch.
If it is the clutch and you have part #, maybe someone on this forum can cross-reference it.
Good luck.

I have a 1983 Craftsman FF20 with the exact same problem. The clutch engages fine when cold but once it heats up it disengages and won't re-engage until the darn thing cools down. I will try to bypass the switch as Maricopa suggested.
