Adding weight

I have some pretty serious hills around my house and I have decided that it is time to add some weights to the front of my lawnmowers as tonight my wife flipped hers over backward while going up one of the hills. There are no mounts for adding weights. I have been thinking about putting fluid in the tires. Will this be enough weight to do any good or should I weld up some brackets and find some weights?

thanks

I would add fluid to the front tires in addition to a weight bracket on the front. I use windshield washer anti-freeze in my tires. It weighs about 8 pounds a gallon and isn't as corrosive as other solutions are. Front wheel weights may also be an option.

I would add a brkt. and weight out front, just to stay away from the mess of the solution in the tires. I tend to disagee with ollie on the direction of mowing. To me I feel safer going up and down then to hang over the edge of the seat.Personal preference. I agree that wild flowers might look better on the hill side then someone getting hurt. Hope everyone is ok.

I agree with you about the direction of mowing. My choice of words was very poor. What I should have said was:

Never mow up and down hill on any hill were it is not safe (too steep) to do so laterally. The reason is these mowers have a very high center of gravity with the operator in place and very easily tip. They are not intended to mow on hills in the first place and the owner's manuals usually have strong warnings against doing so.

Before one of you gets killed... NEVER run a mower up or down a hill. Traverse it laterally or let it grow up in weeds.
