My 600 series Ranch King/MTD is stuck in Forward gear. If it's running and you let off the brake, it dies. And we can't get it out of Forward gear. Any suggestions? My husband did a couple laps with it after replacing the Stack Pulley and it just stopped dead. Don't know if it's important, but I checked the pulley and he had the top belt run out around one of the guard pins. Fixed it, still won't move. We've had problems with it not wanting to go into F or R, but rocking it would make it slip into gear.

Turned out to be a broken gear in the transmission.

Am-e,
I had the same prob with an old Craftsman. I don't know if it will help, but, I had to find gear that it was stuck in by flopping (slowly) the shifter, put it in that gear position and with deliberate action, go to neutral before shifting to any other gear (no diagonal shift).
Good luck.
