The Briggs engine does not have power fed to the magneto. When you ground the wire from the magnetron it kills the spark. DO NOT hook power to the magnetron or you will be buying a new one. Check the terminals on the key switch, the magneto kill wire should go to the one marked with a M. It's possible the switch went bad and is not grounding out when you turn to the off position, or the wire and terminal at the switch is rusty and not making a good connection.

Thanks Wally. I got stuck on KOHLER that day, I guess. Time to rewire my brain.

Your engine does not shut down by grounding the ignition, but rather by the switch cutting off the power supply to the coil. You may have a bad switch that is not shutting off the current. Below is a link to a wiring diagram that might help. There is lots of Cub Cadet info at www.ihregistry.com/discus ... join us!

For some reason I disagree with the switch not grounding out the coil. As far as I remember there is no power going to the coil. There is a wire that comes out of the coil going to the key switch. If you disconnect this wire the key will have no effect on shutting down the tractor.
