Brian - Your LX188 is a 1994 with a 48" deck. The quickest way to get an operator's manual, or tech and parts manuals, is by calling Deere Service Publications at 1-800-522-7448. My experience with respect to filters, is to go with Deere. Sometimes, the oil filter costs are not that much different. You also need to keep in mind the bypass valve in the oil filter may react at a different pressure value in an aftermarket filter. Also, some aftermarket filters, while they fit at the face, are sometimes either longer or shorter in length, affecting the required oil volume. As far as air filters go, if it's a Kawasaki engine, my experience is there are not too many aftermarket options in that area. Deere does have a kit with filters, oil, and plugs for your model of tractor. I don't have the number or price, but your local Deere dealer can provide that information. If the tractor runs good, $800 sounds like a pretty good price, even given the cosmetic damage it has. Congratulations. - Dave
