Hey guys, Unless one of you guys can look up the correct size for a Jacobsen LT860 belt i am striking out. I wore out my old belt so i got a new one from Tractor Supply. I think it got an 87". The old one kept falling off so i figured it was time for new. Now the one i have is too tight. I cant press the clutch and change gears because the belt pulls the trans so tight. When it is in Neutral and i push the clutch the belt just keeps driving and i have to jam it in gear. I tried an 88" but it is too loose and wont even drive. I upgraded and replaced the brakes but they are wearing out so fast because they have to do so much work to stop the tractor. I even changed the idler pulley to a smaller size but still no luck. I would like to go back to the original configuration if i could just find the right belt! No lawn shop has 1/2 sizes.

Thanks for the help

you may want to look into "link" belts. they are sold by power transmission dealers and companies like Granger and McMaster-carr.
The links are removable and they can be adjusted to about 1/2".
They ar a bit higher than a standard "a" belt and a bit wider, but seem to do the job.
The pictures shows them mounted in my old MTD that I was in the process of rebuilding.

if one is too short and the other too long, the problem may be that the belt is the wrong width, some belts are not the same as an automotive belt in width, making the belt fit further down in the pulley, this will cause the problem that you seem to be having

My local NAPA store can order most any size I need, if they don't have it in stock.
