I was told by the local Cub dealer I may soon need a new hydro unit. He said they are not rebuildable , and a new one was about 1000.00 .
Two questions , Do they cost that much and if I were to buy a used one what models would fit mine ? Thank You for the help , Mike

I think I would get another opinion, in all the years and all the cubs I have worked on, only 2 hydro units have I changed and that is because they towed them behind a truck thinking they could start them. And as for that ported pump, you can change that front plate onto any of the hydro units. I have changed over four or five of them over the years.

You can buy a used ported hydro for a lot less than $1,000. But that is about the right price for a new one installed, I would guess.

Check on eBay and on the classifieds pages of the forums 125 Hydro pointed ya to. Buy a good used one and stick it in yourself. You can get a 1650 service manual from CC at 1-800-800-7310.

Hi, Mike..... ... Okay now DEFINITELY go to either or these sites and join then ask away.

Your dealer obviously isn't too well informed about the older Cub Cadet Hydros. Either of these forums have very knowledgeable people that will be able to help you through your questions. Those old hydro trannys are very rugged. For now I must ask have you changed your transmission filter with a Cub Cadet filter and along with that filter change how about have you changed your hydro oil? Again I would request your joining both forums and I think that you will find a solution to be much cheaper than the $1000.00 the dealer has.
