Please share with me any and all info pertaining to the DR TRIMMER.

The usefulness,
The price,
The upkeep,

I live in the Texas Hill Country and am looking for a piece of machinery that will help with keep 5 acres clean. I cannot use a rider type mower, a push mower is not useful because of the cactus and bier.

I saw the DR TRIMMER in a magazine, and I have had the opportunity to try the TRIMMER briefly. But no one locally can speak on the longevity of it.

susan, i have the dr trimmer, and it is very useful around the house, and for heavy-duty trimming. But contrary to DR's claims, it doesnt clear heavy weeds or brush very well. In response to what wild bill said, it doesnt "feed" line at all, it uses single strands (2 of them), which are easily changed without tools. Each string is almost 1/4 inch thick though, and are very durable. unfortunatly, the undercarriage is unprotected, and any slighty used belt will begin to slip when cutting grass with any kind of moisture. Lubrication, as stated by other responses, is difficult. If i had to rate it from 1 to 10, based on manufacturer's claims, i'd give it a 7.

if your dr trimmer belt slips it needs to be replasted with a new one

I initially liked my DR Trimmer. However, the cutter head was manufactured with sealed bearings making it impossible to lubricate. The bearings can not be replaced when the fail. You have to replace the entired trimmer head a cost of around $80.00. I have replaced mine twice in two years. The trimmer does not cut quackgrass well. It constantly plugs even at full throttle. The manufacturer claims it has some time of "patented anti-wrap device." It doesn't work. The concept is a good one. However, the DR is not designed well. I am going to try sell mine and purchase a similar design by Troybuilt.

As fast as I use up string on my hand held trimmer I wonder how usefull these things are, I don't think they even have a bump feed, probably be bolting in a new line every 10 minutes. DR. has a brush & field mower with a metal blade that might be more usefull than their string trimmer.
