Bearings?

I have a JD LT133 with the 38" deck.
The spindle bearings in the deck don't last.
The housings have grease fittings (and I have tried to grease them)but the bearings are sealed on both sides so grease can't get into the bearings anyway.
It is the upper bearings that get dry & fail.

The question is, why did they put grease fittings & sealed bearings in the spindles?

First time the bearings went out on my equip. When I replaced the bearings, I removed the inner shields and drilled grease fittings in the housings, no more problems.

Many thanks!! They were able to find one in a book .003" smaller on the width and .002" on the OD. I have ways to handle that. Thanks again!!!
