I have a White Yard Boss with a B&S 16hp tractor that has a flat rear wheel. I Can't remove the wheel. It has a cotter pin ( which I removed) and a key that is slotted into the shaft and the wheel hub. I have used penetrating oil, WD40 etc but the hub will not slide off the shaft. I have a puller that is tightened up and is now bending the rim. Am I missing something about the key or do I need a lot of heat to remove this hub? HELP!!

Had the same problem. Ended upbeating the axle out the rearend and had to cut the hub out the wheel and grind the rest off the axle.

the reason the hub is frozen is because it has been on the tractor a very long time, with no grease on the axle. whether it be a cheap tractor or top-of-the-line tractor, there must be grease or never-seez on the axle. elsewise, this is the result. i am a deere mech. we see this often, just did a tube on the tractor the other day. tried penetraiting oil--nothing. then tried hitting the rim from the back side with bead breaker---tried to poke hole in rim. had to change on tractor. we have had them soooo bad that we remove the axles from the trans, then heat/beat/cut them off. if you have already bent the rim, this may be the only option left. when you re-assemble, use plenty of grease. good luck!

Wally has the right point, if after all this the wheel is not off, don't continue trying, because if you start heating, then you will ruin the seal, and then if the rim will not come off, you have a rear end axle leak. I am not gonna get into the correct penetraing oil to use everyone has their favorite (not WD40/PB Blaster)(Kroil/yes) But that is the down side of buying cheap tractors, the wheels freeze on the axle and they are a *(^)&*%% to get off. So take tire off on the tractor, repair, be happier.

Heat the hub and shaft area with a ox/act torch. The heat will burn out the rust and also expand the hub.It will come loose. When you reassemble use grease or anti-seize. While you are at it do the other side. Good Luck.

get you some PB-BLASTER and you will never buy WD-40 again.i have proven it to myself many times , you will not believe the difference. if it is possible get a little propane torch in there and get some heat on the center of your wheel.still won't budge, drive t around SLOWLY in a figure eight. soak it more , heat it more , drive it more
good luck!

Get some PB Blaster and soak it good, Then get a punch and tap all the way around the hub area close to the shaft. Be patient and it should break loose. Then a couple times a year, lube it a little, I use anti- seize grease on mine. Bet the other side is the same way. Rust is the culprit.

You probably won't get the wheel off so just jack it up, dismount the tire from the rim and put a tube in it.
