I was checking under my 400 and see that the tranny filter is the same as the oil filter on my van. Should i change it and go to a JD hydo filter and fluid or leave it? it seems to run OK but will I hurt anything? thanks for any info given

egine oil filters and hydro oil filters may seen to be the same, BUT THEY ARE NOT the same inside. The wix # that were post are for Hydros and are ok. You can croos them to NAPA #s too. Do not use engine filters on it. Hydro oil and filter should be changed once a year for long life and performance of the system.

I was going to say, get the correct one from Deere, BUT...

I just looked in my WIX filter book...

Early 400 tranny filter = WIX 51307 (Principal Application ... 64-92 Volvo)(Deere AM38441)

Late 400 tranny filter = WIX 51410 (Principal application ... Toro Lawn and Garden, Ariens and IHC)(Deere AM39653)

I would guess if any of this crosses to the filter you have, you are OK.
