I have an old bolen's rototiller. The gas tank is kind of full of rust. What is the best way to clean this out. The shut off valve on the bottom was plugged. When I unplugged it, I tore a small screen out. Can I replace this with another screen? Or can I buy another elbow with the screen in it? If so, where?

Thanks,

JonWI

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. I didn't think about the inline filter. That would be the easiest way.

Thanks again,

JonWI

Hi Jon your gona think that I'm crazy,That's what I thought about the old guy who told me about this yrs. ago.But it works like a charm.
And I've used it for years myself. Unless tank is so rusty that rust is the only thang holding it together,it works real good.If it's that rusty,it's time for a new tank anyway.Take gas tank off unit, set on cender block somewhere outside and fill full of MURIATIC ASID & let soak for 20-30 minutes.Pour out, rinse with water real good then rinse with gas.

CAUTION!!!!!USE RUBBER GLOVES,SAFTY GLASES & PAINTERS BREATHING MASK.DON'T GET ON YOURSELF,ALUMINUM ON ANY MATEL YOU WANTA KEEP.IT WILL EAT IT.

As far as the fuel filter, anywhere that repairs lawnmowers will have filters or elbow.
I for one would go with the inline type. The red one NOT white.Red one B&S#298090 is 150 micron,The white one B&S#394358 is only 75 microns,Both will fit 1/4" fuel line.

any radiator shop can clean it out for you the correct way, so you dont have rust getting into the carb constantly. any mower shop should be able to set you up with a screen, or use an inline filter if theres room

I have heard of some guys putting marbles in the tank and shaking to knock the rust lost. I wouldn't worry about the screen, just put an inline like from a lawn mower, couple $.
