The only other thing I can think of is fuel starvation caused by the fuel tank developing a vacuum. Is your fuel tank cap vent venting?

Best test is to take the air cleaner off, and sit by it (with your beverage of choice), with a can of starting fluid in your other hand. When It starts to die, hit it with a smack of fluid right in the carb inlet. If nothing happens, go get yourself another magneto.

The gap to the flywheel depends on the model, but I have used a grocery sack for every engine I have worked on to set the gap. Just position the magnets right under the magneto metal core ends with one layer of grocery sack between them and loosen the magneto mounting bolts. The mag will be sucked to the magnets on the flywheel. Bolt her down and slide the paper out. Don't forget to connect any accessory wiring to the mag. Gap is on the order of .005.
