Does anyone know how to replace the voltage regulator on a 1995 MTD riding mower Model 135O675G336 type 1212 01. It looks like the regulator is mounted under the fly wheel, but I can't figure out how to remove the fly wheel.

You should have a voltage regulator on the blower housing that has a 2 wire plug and a single wire with a plastic end. The stator should be the only thing under the flywheel. The voltage regulator number should be 394890/393374 or 691185.

The alternator is under the flywheel. Follow the wire off that and it should go to the reg.

if there are only 2 wires coming from under flywheel one will have a diode on it [fat spot in wire right at connector] this could be your problem it is used as half wave rectifier

I could be wrong but I do not think there is a voltage regulator It just charges off the stator that is under the fly wheel. You need a wheel puller to pull it off. There are some taped holes next to the nut that hold the fly wheel on, that is how you pull it off

Thanks for the quick response. I now see on the Illustrated Parts List the wheel puller (page 10 on link below). The problem I am having is the battery won't stay charged while using the engine. I disconnected the positive wire to the battery while the engine was running. I used a voltmeter and check the battery. It was at 12.5V. Then I checked the voltage on the wire (disconnected from the battery). It was at 9.5V. This voltage should be higher than the battery voltage if the alternator is to keep the battery charged, but it isn't. So the battery is being drained. It is always dead after running the engine an hour or so. This is why I think I have a bad voltage regulator.
