Working on 4HP Biggs vertical shaft engine.

I can shoot gas into carb and engine will run a few seconds. Otherwise I get nothing. There is fresh fuel getting to carb and float works. This carb has a fuel line runing to it. I a familiar with truoble shooting the older engines with the carb siting on the tank, but not these new engines. My question is what are the needle settings for this carb? The needle is located just above fuel bowl on spark plug side.

Is there any other things I should look for?

Thanks for any help, Dan

My husband has a 5hp Briggs motor, attached to a Gilson 1968 or 69 riding mower. It hadn't been started for years and he pulled the rope and it ran perfectly. Anyway, I am looking for information on the mower and its value. We have the original manual.I would like to find out if anyone has any intrest in it, or if it is just another thing taking up room in our overcrowded garage. Thank you.

check your primer bulb for holes or tears also on top of the carb there is what looks like a brass screw, remove it its a metering rod clean the holes out with a tip cleaner and reinstall, also check your mounting bolts, you mite be sucking air around the gasket....hope this helps
