Had the thing all timed and running great. Went to pull it back into the shop after cleaning up and all I get is a "click" under the dash. Battery full and fuses good. What could be wrong now?

Update in reply to Farmall Don, 08-17-2004 18:42:53
Doesnt seem to be a ground problem and starter works fine. Runs normal once I start it by jumping to the starter. I guess that means a bad switch somewhere?

Also, I notice a slight miss. I want to adjust the valves. The valve close to the Carb is the intake and the one to the front is the exhaust? I hope.

Thanks

Don

I doubt that turning the wheel had any affect. See if you can turn the engine over by using the drive shaft. If the starter is hung up on the flywheel it should come loose.

Take a jumper cable and hook it on the (-) negative post of the battery and connect the other end to one of the bolts that hold the starter on. Try and start it, if it starts you have a bad ground system, if it just clicks again then take another jumper cable and attach it to the (+) terminal on the battery and with the ignition switch in the off position momentary connect the other end of the positive battery jumper cable to the terminal on the starter. If the starter spins it is good if it doesn't you have a bad starter.

Bad ground ? Starter died on you ? You say after cleaning - if you washed it, may have just gotten water somewhere it shouldn't be and just needs to dry out good.

The last thing I did was turn the axle to get to top dead center to run a compression check to see if it would hold up to the 70PSI compression release. That was stupid, but maybe I did something with the starter when I turned the axle in the wrong direction. Its the only thing I did after it ran perfect.
