I have a techumseh 8hp motor and i would like to know where to start as far as adjusting the carb. Where would be a good place to start for setting the screw on the bowl and the other on the side of carb. Another question is it a good idea to remove the govenor. Thanks in advance. Mike

1 1/2 turns out on bottom main screw.
1 turn out on side idle mixture screw.
Engine should start and run.
Allow to warm up to operating temp. Run at high idle. Slowly turn bottom screw in and then out to find the best condition.
Now put on slow idle, perform same sequence with the side idle mixture screw.
Now put load on the motor and again high idle.
Fine tune the bottom mixture screw to optimal operation.
You can not take the govenor out.
David.

What is your purpose for removing the governor? Are you racing this or mowing with it?

Usually 1 to 1.5 turns on both will get it running you will have to adjust fuel mixture while its running. AS for the governor NO it is a bad idea it will not perform at all.Hope this helps

2-1/4 on the bottom screw, 1-1/4 on the side screw.
