I have a 1979 Gilson riding mower with an 11 HP B&S vertical shaft engine. The governor spring broke and I was able to get a replacement. My question is - when reconnecting the governor spring, where does it connect in the control bracket? There are 2 arms in the bracket where the throttle and governor linkage connect, but I don't know where the spring connects.

If all else fails, see if you can get the engine cranked by positioning the governor by hand. Once you have it in a spot where it is controlling the engine, take a pair of long nose pliers and grasp the loose end of the spring.

Stretch out the spring and turn loose of the governor arm such that the spring is now controlling the rpm's .

You now have the right distance, look for a hole to put the end into that is that distance away.
