I have a Wheelhorse garden tractor w/a 250 Renault engine in it. Is this the original engine that came in it? Its an older model which I have to find all the id's and numbers on it. I have changed the fuse box on it because it had Renault fuses in it which the board was severly burnt and coroded. The new fuse box I put in it takes the small glass fuses and worked out well. The problem I now have is keeping it running. My wheelhorse has a plow on the front and spots in the real for some other hydralics that can be added. I'm assuming for a rear rototiller or maybe a posthole digger. I don't know what year the tractor is either. When it starts it will run for awhile and I can put it into reverse but as soon as I put it into 1st gear it stalls and won't restart. Any suggestions? I will check for all id's and add to this as soon as the sun comes up.

From what you are saying I think you have a wire loose on the safty switch and the switch will be your neutral switch. That one will let you start in neutral only and when you put it in gear it is not making contact with you power wire.
check this out first!!!!! !!!!!

You might want to check out this Yahoo Group. Anything you want to know about WH tractors can be had from the menbers. Yes, the engine is correct.
