Did you buy an ignition sw. for a John Deere or did you a generic/ Lawn mower ignition sw may all look the same but internally they are differant.

One embarrasing problem I always have is I forget that I had the PTO on, or something else on. The engine won't turn over and I can't figure out why! GAH! Silly safety devices always doing their job! Hopefully that'll make you feel better.

Anyways, how's the condensor? I had one that was ready for the wall of shame that caused my ignition to not work.

I guess check your wiring and make sure the connections are good and the wires aren't shot. I've had a few of those creep up on my 110.

And as for the starter ring, I've tried starting mine a couple times and somehow the starter ring gets 'stuck' to the flywheel. I'm not sure how, or why. But all I did was rotate the engine by hand and the ring would go back to its resting position on its own. Dunno why, dunno how, and dunno why it hasn't done it since.

Hopefully this will give you some ideas to check. Let me know what you find out!

Bryon,
If you have a multi-meter check the voltage at the point where the ingnition wire goes to the coil, turn on the key and see if you have 12+ volts.
If not it"s the switch or the saftey switches.
If you do have then check the points again and make sure they are clean and open and close.
