Hello All, I've got a Dynamark 8-36 riding lawnmower (8hp B&S electric start with a 36" cut). Anyhow the problem is when I turn the key off the engine keeps running. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this setup?
Thanks, Tony

Re: mower deck in reply to Jim Il, 05-15-2002 17:20:00
Take it from me Jim, keeping a deck clean will greatly increase it's life. I'm in the process of "revitalizing" a mower deck that I aquired from a friend a few weeks ago. He had just set it up for a couple years and neglected to clean it. The underside was caked in rust. Fortunately it wasn't all the way through and can be saved.

Cleaning can be a hassle. When I drop the deck I place an old rug under it so when it is free of the lawn tractor I can tug on the rug to pull it out.

Sometimes, like you, I hose it off but then I use my leaf blower or air compressor to dry it top and bottom.

300 hours is very good life for a set of blades.

Some of the guys on this board have sprayed the underside of their deck with epoxy paint to help shed the grass clippings. One of my neighbors even tried "Pam" and WD-40. He said it worked reasonably well but he got tired of having to apply it everytime he cut his grass. Go figure.

Good luck,
Beaux

Regular upkeep is the key to a long life.

just to make getting this lawn mower back in running shape more fun, the previous owner did some creative wiring. So know I've got some wires just dangleing without any idea where they go. It starts fine but just won't shut off by the key.
Thanks for any help,
Tony

I have a Dynamark ride on mower with a 12 volt electric start and i had the very same problem.

Witht he lid tipped up, i can look dfown into engine and on the right hand side there is a cable coming our fomr under engine cover which i assume is fomr coil of engine

it has a sapde termianl on it that should have a black wire fomr the ignitoin switch taht when the key is in off pistion will ground out the coil by the wire hooked up to this spade connection.

one way u can test this theroy would be to take a wire form neg termial of battery and put it on this terminal on side of engine, it sould ground it out and make engine stop

i catuoi u shold do this with engine running but switch in off position so u are nto shroting out other things at the same time

if this shuts down engine u know the source of your problem and acna then tracae wire fromkey switch to this termial on engine, hook it up and it sould slove your problem

best wishes

Pat

had a motor run on me...pulled the -'ve to stop it...I cleaned out the ignition switch...pull off the back plug...threw cleaner in it..but you have to blow this out...or it will negate contact...had no problems after that...this is not the selenoid...that occurred to....the starter would not kick off...needed to give it a few bangs...is going...sometimes it doesn't work...but you could just make a heavy duty switch to start it...and save bucks..

hope this helps...

If its a Briggs you should find a wire from the coil - that'll ground on a small stub on the assembly the throttle cable connects to, there is also a ground from the key switch that attaches to the same place. Try looking at your buddies to see how it all works.

Good luck
