Hi I have a problem getting gas to the carb on my 18hp briggs.Put new fuel filter on fresh gas in tank, tank was bone dry over the winter.Pour a little gas in carb and it run till gas is gone.Last year had to have the chock pulled half way out to run right.think i need to rebuild carb or is it just out of adjustment of the screw thanks

A common mistake is to install the filter in the wrong direction. Have you checked to make sure the arrow on the filter is pointing from the gas tank towards the engine?

ok where your fuel hoses hook on is there a rectangular lookin metal piece with 3 screws holdin it on.if so that rect lookin part is the fuel pump.if not do you perhaps know the model number of your tractor .the first 3 numbers will be 917.look under the seat and ill look on the sears site and can explain it to you in better detail. don

if its the carb im thinkin about it sounds like the fuel pump diaphram is out or has a pin hole or crack.the fuel pump is mounted in the carb itself.right where the hoses fit on is the fuel pump.theres a rubber diaphram inside.pull it apart and replce the diaphram .be careful not to lose the little springs in it.then re install and see if thats not your problem.hope that helps.good luck.

Remove the line where it goes into the carb, if you got plenty of gas there, then most likely is time for a complete carb cleaning. I dont like to store tanks MT for the winter. Fill them and add stabilizer. That way you can start them once in a while when its cold outside, let them run 10 min or so. Helps the battery and also lubes. BTW check the cap vent also.

Pull float bowl off of bottom of carb//are you getting gas in bowl? If not you have an obstruction in gas line//usually blow it out with air. If you are getting gas to bowl is float operating freely? If so pull carb and give a good cleaning. You need to pay close attention to small jet holes and some carbs have a hole in the bottom screw used to secure bowl. This must be clean. good luck...
