About that BS motor, is it shot?

Well, after realizing that this engines performance had degraded down to dragging I decided to test compression and pulled the head of the loser. The pressed ring that the exhaust valve seats on came out and has rounded out the hole to the extreme, especially on the downhill side. The heads and case are one cast piece. Is there any hope or should I just be pulling it and replacing it?

Thanks

If you have a good automotive machine shop nearby, have them take a look at it. They will have valve seats of various thicknesses and dimensions, and if you luck out and find a guy who's been around the shop for a while, he may be able to come up with a seat (intended for another application) that will fit after machining the seat bore true with the valve guide, and a bit larger.

Of course, the cost will vary greatly from situation to situation, and the quote you get may be too high to make it worthwhile.

Chris,
I don"t understand the
"The heads and case are one cast piece".
It sounds to me that the engine is beyond being repaired at a reasonable cost. You can sometimes center punch them back in but if it is wallowed out bad I wouldn"t think that would work.

Thanks for the responses. My first thought was to maybe I could replace the cylinder, but it appears that both cylinders and casing are cast as one piece. In any case, it is wallowed out pretty bad and I guess it's new engine time.

Thanks
