I am trying to salvage an old Agway rider with an 11hp Briggs engine (252707). Flywheel and mag were covered with so much rust that the spark was weak. Took off the mag, cleaned everything, put it back together, had great spark and then nothing. Before I go off and buy a new mag, can anyone tell me the proper distance to set the mag from the flywheel?

Thanks!

DGW

Gap setting is usually .015 as read on engine sites. By the way, I"ve got the same Agway rider with 11hp B&S. No manual of course. Maybe you may know what this part is that connects to/from the solenoid starter, it"s has two terminals on it, dimensions about 1 1/2 " X 1" and is connected on the same strip of metal as the starter solenoid.
trying to figure out what its purpose is .

Thanks,
Peter

on the external ones, clean rust off real good, set business card inbetween magnets and metal fingers and cinch her down

take cardout and make sure flywheel will rotate several times without hitting, if your bearings are bad, might need 2 business cards but big gap weakens spark

change out your points/condensor with good ones or new ones before you spend big money on coil
