Ariens Problem

I have an Ariens lawn tractor GT19 , it has a Kohler twin . Anyhow , it will run for about 15 min. or less and then spit and sputter and eventually die. I have been trying to baby it the past couple of mowings and now it sits in the middle of my yard.
I changed the fuel filter and checked the airfilter . It was a little dirty but it still ran bad with it out ( I didn't mow with it out, I just started it right back up after it had died and it ran the same ).
It is almost like it isn't getting enough fuel or over heating .
Which should I check first ? How hard is it to change the fuel pump and how do I check to see if the old one is good ?
Thanks,
Raz

I am getting so frustrades with it but I love my large deck that I have on it.

Does it have points? If so you may want to replace

chk the fuel filter first to see if its not got a lot of dirt or sediment restricting fuel flow.then make sure the vent hole in the gas cap is open and not restricted.then on the fuel line goin into block pull the hose off and pull plugs off to keep from starting and spin the engine over a couple of times and see if the fuel pump is pumping the fuel out.if it does its prob somethin else besides the fuel pump. don
