I am looking at buying a 448 18 HP tractor with 48 inch deck and 42 inch tiller. The tractor is about 10 years old and runs good. They are asking $3500. Is this a good price? What problems should I expect with a Case 448? Any info would be appreciated.

I have the 448 which is 18hp instead of 16hp. The best thing about the tractor is the onan engine, I think anyway. It's not like the Briggs where it boggs down easily and I run a 60" mower with it. It makes good hp without having to be reeved all the way up. As far as the tractor, it's a pretty good tractor. I've had to replace the sector gear on the stearing, but that was only $50. I also put a lower high gear in because I have alot of hills in my lawn, the high gear was just to fast and the low range was too slow. I also found was you can run a b size belt on the mower deck rather than the a size and it wont wear as quickly and it wont slip in heavy grass. Tim

I have had my Case 448 only a short time, but I like it. I have the 60" deck. It sold for $1400 at auction with no attachments. It was in average condition with minor carburetor and electrical problems. Running fine now.

Look at the serial number tag located just below the steering wheel. There is a date stamped just behind 448. That is either the model year or year of manufacture.

If it has the original engine then I think $3500 is steep. Keep in mind that a new 18 HP Onan will retail for around $1400 and new decks are pretty expensive. Is the deck in good shape?
Any other implements?

I love my 446 and would encourage anyone to invest in a used CASE.
