just bought a real clean 109 w/ a newer replacement 12hp kohler (the black engine). Hasn"t been run in 10 yrs, stored inside. bought as not running but am sure couple hrs will get it up and running. gave 300$ for it. I currently have an old 109 w/ a tired and smoking 10hp kohler and a weak hydro. redeeming feature is the hyd lift for the deck that steals hyd power from the hydrostat.
would swapping the hydraulics onto the "new"tractor be the right idea or swapping the newer eninge and hydrostat into the older tractor be the better choice?? thanks

The Sundstrand Hydro's came in two versions, being: Ported and Non-Ported. You need a Ported Hydro to run Auxillary Hydraulics.

I assume the newer 109 has a "armstrong" lift while the older 109 has hydraulic lift.

You can not install the hydraulic lift onto a non-ported Sundstrand Hydro. The plumbing is not there to run this.

In order to have hydraulic lift on the newer 109, you could move the lift mechanicism over BUT you would have to have a ported hyrdo, either from your older 109 or from some other source.

As a suggestion, I would imagine, that the older 109 has old hydro oil and filter in it. Many times I have seen, where one could change out the hydro oil, totally clean up the cub rear end, install a fresh batch of HyTran with a new Hydro Filter, brings back the performance once lost.

You can just swap out the front pump assembly of the hydro and all the hydraulic related components to the nicer 109.

Remember too that you will have to swap out the rockshaft from the hydraulic tractor and remove the one with the armstrong lift lever.
