you said that it was a little smokey was this before you changed the oil?sounds like the float took on gas thus causing the carb float valve not to seat properly allowing gas to overflow into the crank case .this would cause the oil to thin out and get past the rings thus smoking .once the oil has been replaced and brought to the proper level the smoking should stop.the carb was probably dumping too much gas when trying to crank

you need 3 main things fuel spark and compression. now compression is also vacume to suck air through the carb.you say you have spark. so it could be a carb problem or no compression. now the thing to do is check for compression first. if you have it then using a cap from a soda bottle as a measure put 2 caps of gas into the air intake of the carb, with the aircleaner removed of corse. if it fires up on that then dies you have a carb/no fuel getting into the motor problem

i got it running 1/2 way decent, odd thing tho, i about have to have the float bowl screw all the way in, i got the idle screw at around 2, seems to idle best at that.

I re check float level and make sure it was not sticking.

runs but seems a little smokey when i throttle up or down.
when i got it first running it was smokey bad. then seemed to dry up.

I did notice my oil was either watery or gassy from sitting outside. the float had gotten a whole in it and the gas just flowed right on thru, and sat since oct of last year until today when i put a new carb kit in it.

compression might be on the week side, but ran okay last year like that.

I drained and added in some 10w 30, now i know this is little thin , versus 30 wieght, but its what was handy. I will get some 30 weight and try that out,

have u tried to shoot some gas in the spark plug hole and see if it will even try to fire.btw hows the compression .may have a blown headgaskets the reason i ask about the compression.butif it were mine id spray some wd 40 in the plug hole and if it pops u know its carb prob.another thing is that fresh fuel or has it been settin awhile.try that.good luck. don

Don, unless they've changed things recently the go is all gone from WD-40. The last couple times I've tried squirting it into an engine nothings happened.
I've taken to giving the engine a good shot of PB Blaster to lube stuff up and then just the smallest shot of starting fluid. I don't even do that on rotary motors or indirect injected diesels though.
