Adjusting transmission on a Murry mower

I have a Murry riding mower with a 14 HP Briggs engine, 42" mower deck, Model # 42614X92A with a Made code of 0973. The transmission looks to be a belt drive with 6 forward gears and 1 reverse gear.

My problem is the transmission does not engage in the forward gears unless I give the shifting lever a tap. In reverse it makes a "ticking" sound as if it can't quite engage untill I give it a few taps.

I was wondering what I need to do to adjust the transmission so it engages the gears properly.

Thanks much,

Old Iron in Wisconsin

i think if i remember right i could be wrong but theres no adj on that trans. is the shifter reod itself bent out of place a little.you if the shifter arm is loose it may be that the bolt holding it on may have backed off and need to b tightened up. good luck don
