I have a 16 HP horizontal that sometimes misses, runs on one cyl then both.
Two new coils, diodes are good at least check good on harness. If I pull off the plug wire (when it missing) it will run on the other cyl (like it was the bad cyl) and then do it to the other one it will run on that one then.
It driving me crazy, any ideas?
David

The diodes in the coil grounding harness may be failingas the voltage they see is more than is used in checking by the test equipment. Pull the kill wire from each coil. Does it run ok now? If so the diodes are breaking down in use. If it DOES NOT run ok at least you know it is not the ignition. A side comment, I would have replaced the wiring harness with the diodes first as that would have been cheaper than two new coils.

Kent,
Hind site is twenty twenty for sure. I had taken the diode harness off and it didn't improve it. I'm also leaning toward a sticking exhaust valve. A place where I get some parts from say the Briggs twins valves tend to stick to the guides. I've replaced two heads on customers motors for that and several broken push rods.
Kent thanks for the reply,
David
